Rene is a biologist and field ornithologist specializing in the research and conservation of endangered species, as well as an experienced Mexican birder with many years in the field. Based in Mazatlán, he works as a freelance wildlife consultant conducting biological surveys, leading birding tours, and pursuing wildlife photography.
Rene guides custom birding trips throughout Mexico, with particular expertise in Northeast Mexico (Monterrey and surrounding areas), West Mexico tours across the Mazatlán–Durango corridor and the San Blas region—one of the country’s premier birding destinations—as well as Chiapas and the Yucatán Peninsula. He also organizes private tours to virtually any region of Mexico requested by experienced birders seeking specialized targets or customized itineraries.
When he is not in the field birding—which is rare—Rene dedicates his time to reviewing eBird records and hotspots across multiple Mexican states. He also manages and moderates several major birding communities, including the “eBird-Mexico,” “Mexico Rare Bird Alert,” and “¿Cuál es esta Ave?” Facebook groups.
